{"id":8903,"date":"2023-11-15T11:06:24","date_gmt":"2023-11-15T16:06:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nptrust.org\/?p=8903"},"modified":"2024-08-06T13:52:45","modified_gmt":"2024-08-06T18:52:45","slug":"highlights-from-the-2023-daf-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nptrust.org\/philanthropic-resources\/philanthropist\/highlights-from-the-2023-daf-report\/","title":{"rendered":"Highlights from the 2023 DAF Report"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This week National Philanthropic Trust (NPT) released our 2023 <em>Donor-Advised Fund Report<\/em>, the annual in-depth analysis of the donor-advised fund (DAF) sector in the United States. &nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>Last year proved a pivotal year for DAF donors. DAFs reached yet another record-breaking milestone in grantmaking, as well as an increase in contributions; all in the face of a challenging year in the U.S. financial markets.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>NPT\u2019s 2023 <em>Donor-Advised Fund Repor<\/em>t looked at 2018 through 2023 fiscal year data from 1,151 charitable organizations offering DAFs. &nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>These are the most pivotal takeaways and notable findings in this year\u2019s report:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>2023 <\/strong><strong><em>Donor-Advised Fund Report<\/em><\/strong><strong> Highlights&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>DAF donors, once again, granted at historic levels.<strong> <\/strong><strong>Grants from DAFs to qualified charitable organizations totaled an estimated $52.16 billion, <\/strong>representing a 9 percent increase compared to 2021. This is the first year where grants from DAFs exceeded $50 billion. &nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>total number of individual DAF accounts<\/strong> in 2022 increased by 2.9 percent to 1,948,545. &nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>DAF payout rate<\/strong> was <strong>22.5 percent<\/strong>. While down 6.2 percentage points compared with 2021\u2019s high-water mark, the DAF payout rate has remained above 20 percent for every year on record.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Charitable <strong>assets under management<\/strong> declined 1.1 percent and totaled $228.89 billion. Strong donor activity offset the effects of constricting global financial markets. &nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>DAF <strong>contributions<\/strong> totaled $85.53 billion in 2022, a 9 percent
